Chef

A small group of artists gets together once a month to work from a live model. We chose to have this man dress in a chef's costume and this was my resultant watercolor sketch.

Rising Phoenix

This began as an abstract landscape. I added the little girl's portrait which I got

from an art instruction book. I also added a few stencils. I think the additions were an improvement. 30"x40" acrylic on canvas

Dreaming of Jamaica

Our local art guild had an extremely handsome man from Jamaica pose for us and he wore the colors of his national flag. I used these as inspiration for his portrait study.

I have always loved the colors of shadows on snow. The serpentine roadways juxtapositioned with the open range and the strong horizontal emphasis of land and sky define Wyoming for me.

I did this as a demonstration for one of my drawing classes. Colors are built up gradually starting with large areas first. The shadow across the face adds drama.

Levitation

This quick sketch received a bit of whimsy when I purposely placed the shadow in such a manner that the strawberry raised from the substrate.

Tony

This aging Italian gentleman was challenging because of his unusual beard which was actually under his chin. I chose to draw him on a dark grey paper and work both lights and darks onto the middle value of the paper.
