I did this as a demonstration for one of my drawing classes. Colors are built up gradually starting with large areas first. The shadow across the face adds drama.
Variations of red, blue, and yellow form this intimate still life. Original oil, 4x6" on stretched canvas, framed in black wooden frame with gold embellishments.
This aging Italian gentleman was challenging because of his unusual beard which was actually under his chin. I chose to draw him on a dark grey paper and work both lights and darks onto the middle value of the paper.
This woman carries herself with such strength. I finally was able to get her to pose for this portrait. I have not quite captured her yet, but will try another in the future.
Watercolor, 9x12" This is one of my "FantaFlora" paintings where I start with random blobs of color and develop whatever color or shape sequences evolve. I am not sure which way is up.
Pastel, 20x26". Alive model posed for this sketch. The image shown is seen part way through the drawing process. The underpainting has been roughed in and the gentleman's wrinkles were just being rendered when the modeling session was ended. I will continue next month when the model returns.
